“Do I Really Know God?”

Thought for Today: Do I Really Know God

All around the world, there are many who say “I KNOW GOD.” The word KNOW in the Hebrew language does not mean the same thing in the English language. To know someone in the English language simply means to know of his/her existence, but in the Hebrew language, a person can only know someone if they have a personal and intimate relationship with them.

In Genesis 18:19 God says about Abraham, “I KNOW HIM” meaning God Himself has a very close relationship with Abraham. In these last days, you will hear and see many say that they KNOW GOD, and then there will be those who say they do not know God, and there will be those who think they know God.

Today the Lord is asking you, “Do you really know Me?” For some, the answer is a resounding yes, to others, it is a shameful no. But to many who are being honest, the truth is “I don’t know.”

Some will say they KNOW GOD because they go to church, but I say to you that going to church does not mean you know God, just like standing in the garage does not make you a car. Yes, going to church will help you grow your relationship with God, but it does not mean that you KNOW God.

Some will say they KNOW God because they read the word of God. I remind you that the word of God says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he (she) is like unto a man (woman) beholding his (her) natural face in a glass. For he (she) beholdeth himself (herself) and goeth his (her) way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man (woman) he (she) was” (James 1:22-24).

You may be asking, “How DO I REALLY KNOW IF I TRULY KNOW (have an intimate relationship with) God, Pastor Erick?” Jesus said it this way, “If ye love me (if you want an intimate relationship with me) keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide (live in you) forever. Even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you” (John 14:15-17).

You can tell when a person truly KNOWS (has an intimate relationship with) God, but not by how they live their lives. What the world would call evidence is what the word calls fruit. The fruit of the Spirit, or the evidence that you have an intimate relationship with God, is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith (in God and not in man) meekness, temperance; against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). This is how you know if you truly know (have an intimate relationship with) God.

For it is written, “And hereby we do know that we KNOW HIM if we keep His commandments. He that saith I KNOW HIM and keepeth not his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk (live) even as He walked (lived)” (1 John 2:3-6).

When you truly KNOW the Lord God Almighty, every step you take in life will be filled with the fragrance of the knowledge of who He is. Don’t just tell the world you KNOW GOD today, show them that you have an intimate relationship with God by the life you live. It will attract those around you to look for their own personal relationship with God.

Be Blessed
