One Or the Other

I want to reveal a secret to you which was revealed to me. I often thought the enemy of my soul only wanted me to not obey the laws of God simply because they wanted me to do wrong. I thought the devil only wanted to cause me hurt, harm, stress, anger, frustration, and hopelessness so I could stay out of the will of God. Religion teaches people keeping the laws of God is very hard and strenuous. But the Word of God says, “For this is the love of God, we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” (I John 5:3) I have also been taught the only reason the enemy does what he does to me is to keep me from receiving the blessings of God. For the Word of God says,

In I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statues and his judgments, thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. (Deuteronomy 30:16)

Listen to me! Every time you keep the law of God, you give God the praise and glory. Did you know that? We were always taught to sing a song gives God the praise. The Word praise means to express warm approval or admiration. When you love your neighbors as you love yourself, you are praising God. “. . . Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:39) You are expressing warm approval or admiration for what God said. When you walk by faith (in God) and not by sight, you are praising God. “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” (II Corinthians 5:7) You are expressing a warm approval or admiration for what God said. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him (the Lord God Almighty), and He (God himself) shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 [emphasis added]). You are giving God the praise and the glory. You are expressing warm approval and admiration to what God said.

Now here is where the Holy Spirit opened my eyes. He said to me, “Erick, if keeping the law gives God the praise, who gets the praise when you break the law?” When you keep the law, you give God the praise and you fight against the enemy. But when you break the law, you give the enemy the praise and you fight with God. It is one or the other. As a child of God, we should not keep the laws of God in our heart because we have to as religion teaches. You should do all you can to keep the laws of God simply because you want to. It is a decision you make simply because you appreciate what God has done for you.

For God so love the world, He gave His only begotten Son, whosoever believeth in him (trust in, rely on, depend on and adhere to) should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 [emphasis added]

And this is life eternal, they (this means you) might know (have an intimate relationship with) thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent. (John 17:3 [emphasis added])

The Word of God says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) You do not keep the law because you have to; you keep the laws of God because you love God, and you know God loves you. When you keep God’s law you are giving God the praise and the glory for who He is, in and for your life. But when you break the laws of God you are giving the enemy the praise. For it is written: “They forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.” (Proverbs 28:4 [emphasis added])

Do not give the enemy praise today. Keep the Word of God. Live your life how God tells you to, and give God all the praise and the glory He deserves.

Be Blessed!
