“The Gift that Cost”

Thought for Today: The Gift that Cost

In the natural realm, when you receive a gift it does not cost you a thing. When someone brings you a gift on your birthday or anniversary, it is a free gift. You do not have to pay anything or lose anything, it is something that you just have to accept.

The problem with that is, as a child of God, many apply this same standard to receiving the most important gift that God has given humanity. The Word of God says, “For the wages of sin is death, but THE GIFT OF GOD is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Now, most believers will equate eternal life to living forever. But listen to what Jesus said eternal life is in John 17:3, “And this is life eternal, THAT THEY MAY KNOW THEE THE ONLY TRUE GOD AND JESUS CHRIST WHOM THOU HAST SENT.”

You see, the wages of sin is death, which means that when a person dies their spirit leaves (is separated from) their physical body. Spiritual death is the same as your spirit is being separated from God. In the beginning God was one with humanity, but when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden humanity was no longer one with God.

But John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God gave His all so that you and I can have a chance to have an intimate, personal relationship with God the Father, through God the Son, by God the Holy Spirit.

It is a gift; you can’t buy it, you can’t earn it, there is nothing that you can do to achieve this amazing gift that God has given us. There is only one thing that you can do to get this gift from God, and that is accepting it.

This is one of the hardest things to do when you have lived life your way, when you have followed after the world’s way of living, and when you have done and said things that are just evil and wrong.

This is the strategy of hell, the world, your flesh, and the devil will consistently inform you of all the wrong you did or said in your life, and try to convince you that there is no way a Holy God could ever love a person like you. I want you to see this truth about what God says in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth His love towards us (God showed us just how much He loves us) in that WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US (this means you).”

God did not wait until you got it all together to show you that He loves you. God did not wait until you knew the bible backward and forward to show you that He loves you. God did not wait until you started going to church every Sunday to show you just how much He loves you. The Word of God says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God gave us a gift in the life of Jesus Christ. But you most know this truth, to accept this gift it is going to cost you. I know the Word says that if you get a gift, it should not cost you anything. But the Word of God says in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

“Yes, I have given you a gift, which is the opportunity to get to not only have an intimate relationship with me,” says the Lord, “but I have given you a gift to become one with me. But this gift is going to cost you. It is the reason why many will not accept this gift because of its cost.” You may be asking what this cost is. Jesus showed us what the cost of accepting this gift from God is in Luke 14:26, “If any man (woman) come to me and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sister, yea and his own life also he cannot be my disciple.”

God is saying to you today, “I have the gift of eternal life that I am prepared for you to receive, this gift comes through the death burial and resurrection of my only begotten Son. But to accept this gift it will cost you your life. Your way of thinking, your way of talking, your way of acting, your way of living. It will cost you your friends and family members, your co-workers, your associates in life. This gift cost Me My All, so to receive it, it will cost you your all.”

For it is written, “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:33).

Many will not receive this gift of God simply because it costs too much. But I assure you that, when you accept this gift, everything you lost by accepting the gift of God will be returned to you in double. Receive the gift of God today and watch the glory of God blow up in your life.

Be Blessed.
