“The Person They Knew”

Thought for Today: The Person They Knew

As you draw closer to God in the reading of His word, prayer, and worshiping Him in spirit and in truth, things begin to change in/for your life. And the truth of the matter is, those around you will see the change in you before you do.

The reason this change is different from how the world changes is because the change in you is from the inside out. You can’t see the change simply because you are not doing the changing. Every time you read the word of God, it begins to mold you into the image of Jesus.

Every time you pray, the Holy Spirit begins to change the way you talk. Every time you worship the Holy Spirit, God begins to change the way you live your life.

It will appear that, all of a sudden, you don’t want to curse any more, for the word of God says “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:29-30).

The more time you spend in the word, in prayer, and in worshipping God in spirit and in truth, you begin to see things differently because you now walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). At one point in your life, you used to just give up when you did not understand what was happening. But now you “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3-5-6).

As God begins to conform you into the image of the Lord Jesus, the world, your flesh, and the devil will begin to notice and ask the question “who does he think he is?” or “who do she think she is?” And because you no longer want to talk like you used to, they will begin to say “he/she thinks they are better than us.”

Because you no longer want to live the life that you used to live, they will begin to say “he/she is a holy roller now.” They will begin to point out to you all the changes that God is making in your life. And, since it’s not you that is making the changes in your life but it’s God doing the changing, the enemy of your soul will begin to remind you of who you used to be to prevent you from becoming who God has called you to be.

They will remind you that you used to be scared of everything, but the new you knows that “God does not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). They will try to remind you that you used to not be able to do anything for yourself, but now you can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth you (Philippians 4:13).

You see, the word of God says “Therefore if any man (woman) be in Christ, he (she) is new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). So when they talk about what you can or cannot do, they are talking about the old you that they knew.

The word of God says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son. That he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29).

God is changing you from the inside out, and those around you who knew you before this change will begin to remind you of who you used to be, rather than who you are now. I say to you my brother, I say to you my sister, you are not the same person they knew back then. And you must not dwell on what you used to do, how you used to talk, and how you used to live. The reason the world, your flesh, and the devil want you to dwell on who and what you used to be/do is simply because they want to prevent you from being who God has called you to be.  The changes that God is making in you are heavenly changes; they are changes in your spirit and not just in the natural.

Stay in the word because the word of God is what’s changing you from the inside out. Stay in prayer, because your communication with God is what’s changing you from the inside out. Continue to worship God in spirit and in truth because, when you worship God, you get into the presence of God and being in His presence is what is changing you. They want you to live your life by the person they used to know.

For it is written, “And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother WE KNOW? How is it then that he saith I came down from heaven?” (John 6:42).

God is doing a new thing in you, and it is not a natural change, it’s a spiritual change. When those who knew you begin to tell you who you used to be, how you used to talk, and how you used to live, praise God because even they can see the work that God is doing in you.

Be Blessed
